Configuring a VDS Device

On the interface page of the Connectivity Hub, users can create new VDS device ID for one credit each.

This VDS device ID should then be configured on the physical alarming device that transmits information over the VDS Protocol.

To do this, click on '+ Generate Device ID' under 'VDS Quickstart Configuration':

IDS 4100 should be configured on the VDS Modem for the generated device ID to establish the connection between the device and FACT24.

For connection details (e.g. server addresses), please contact F24.

An existing VDS Device ID can be reconfigured by regenerating a VDS Device ID.

As before, this should then be configured on the physical alarming device that transmits information over the VDS Protocol.

Example:

Creating a VDS Quickstart

The next step after creating a VDS Device ID and configuring it is to create a VDS quickstart using the Rule Maker.

  1. Click on the '+' in the navigation to open the Rule Maker
  2. Select VDS from the Quickstart Type dropdown
  3. Select the corresponding VDS recipient you have just created
  4. Name your rule
  5. Select the ENS+ alarm you wish to trigger using this rule
  6. You can then select whether you want to attach a message template to this rule

Example Rule:

What is a Message Group?

A message group is a combination of different values transmitted over the VDS Protocol.

Example: 000E000100

Upon creation of a rule, you can test it out using the Dry Run functionality on the Ruleset page, and when everything works fine, you have successfully set up a VDS quickstart.
